Hi,
It's Arno.
Was doing some client work recently. We got hired to rank him in Google's top 3. So we got to work.
Couple weeks go by, we do what we do best, and after all that I checked the results.
Good news and bad news.
Good news: He made considerable progress from his initial spot (#27)
Bad news: He was ranking #4
Turns out we were having a hard time ranking him in Google's top 3!
This rarely happens, so I went to investigate.
Turns out he had two competitors that had been ranking #1 and #2 for the last 7 years. Once you get up there you tend to keep that spot.
So I do some background research to figure out what it would take to beat them. There's always a way if you know what you're looking for.
Turns out the explanation is simple.
They're cheating. Hard.
These two were basically using every nasty trick in the book and they got away with it because they had been in that position for so long.
Whatever shady blackhat thing you can think of? They did that. And a few more you've never heard of.
Now, I don't like cheaters and I don't like cheating.
And you can actually win in the rankings without cheating. Just takes a bit more work. BUT you never have to worry about your profile getting banned or your rankings getting nuked on a random Tuesday morning because someone figured out you were abusing the system.
Told the client we were on track (because we were) but that we'd need a few more weeks to nail that top 3.
Happy to say that we're #1 now. The scammers are ranking at #5 and #6. Not sure why they suddenly dropped after all this time. Google moves in mysterious ways.
Long story short - you can actually win without resorting to backhanded stuff. Just takes a bit more work. But that makes the reward even sweeter.
Talk soon,
Arno
