Hi,
It's Arno.
About 10 years ago I had a rat problem. It got so bad I had to get a professional involved.
This guy turned out to be the world's worst salesman.
I lived in a rural area, couple of neighbors had chickens, one even had three goats. They were pretty cool.
The problem is that they get fed daily and that attracts all kinds of critters. Which includes rats.
Rats are actually insane animals. Did you know they can gnaw THROUGH concrete?
I didn't know that. Until I started hearing scratchy noises in my living room ceiling. Thought it was the ghost of the previous owner. Went to investigate, turns out a family of rats had gnawed through a cast iron grate and about 4 cm of concrete just to get into my house.
I respect the grind. But it was still annoying to have them IN the house.
So I Googled and called the first pest control guy that popped up.
I schedule an appointment, he comes out, walks around for about 5 minutes, tells me:
"Yeahhh... there's nothing we can do. It's unsolvable"
I thought he was joking.
He was not joking.
"There's nothing we can do sir. I get these calls all the time. And the only solution is to poison them or trap them".
I had assumed as much. But I thought that this was the exact thing that pest control guys did.
So I asked him why HE couldn't poison and/or trap them.
"Well, people can do it themselves. Just put down a couple traps. Maybe get some poison. Hope it works out. Rats are smart you know? Anyway, gotta go!"
And he walked out.
Leaving me with a rat infestation.
Imagine you run a restaurant but you send people away because... they can cook for themselves.
You run a clothing store but you refuse to sell because... people can make their own clothing.
You have a coffeeshop but you tell people to piss off because... they are capable of making their own coffee.
Dude was the worst salesman I have seen in my life.
Don't be like that dude. When people call you to solve a problem, solve the problem, charge money for it. That's how business works.
Talk soon,
Arno
P.S. He got these calls because he was at the top of Google. We help companies get there. If you're not a HORRENDOUS salesperson like this man, the top spot is easily worth $30,000 - $100,000+ per year for an average business in an average city.
If you want to get there, reply to this email and let's see if we're a good match.
P.P.S. I actually did end up solving the problem myself. Bought 50 traps online. Loaded them up with peanut butter. Put them at the entry that our rat friends created. Cought at least 8 rats.
They are huge, they are gross, they stink and I would have STILL much preferred if the pest control guy would have just sold me this stuff and charged me a couple hundred dollars for the privilege.
